It's Potty Time!

I know that this isn't theologically deep like Hebrews or as controversial as the UFC, but my son has poo-pooed in the potty for two days in a row. I never thought I'd be so thrilled to see poop in the potty. That's a big step towards manhood from my two-year old. I'm very proud.

Congrats man! You wife must be brilliant, Ethan accomplished this in 1/4 the time it took you.

But trust me, you'll be less than excited the first time you find it on the floor.

Moving away from diapers is a major accomplishment . . . and a major savings in the bank account.

My daughter just turned two, so we're looking forward to her reaching this. She's starting to come to us when she's "dirty," so it may happen in the near future.

Having successfully guided four children from diapers to self-reliance, I have to say potty training was the four worst experiences of my life!

Oh yeah, worse than finding it on the floor: finding it in the bathwater.

Finding it in a drawer...

You know, if women posted about this kind of thing, they'd be accused of "mommy blogging."

I think it's a testimony to your diversity as a blogger that you would share this detail.

And Jonathon is right on the money. It's a huge relief to the budget to have a kid out of diapers.

In a drawer? You're kidding, right? How in the world...no, wait, I don't think I want to know!

Matt C.,

That was low, man. You've never gotten over that time you invited me to spend the night in 1st grade and I had an "accident."

Matt B.,

Your daughter will do fine I'm sure. Girls are smarter than boys, and far more sanitary.

Even So,

Believe it or not, I have heard of this phenomenon before. I had a friend whose son used to hide poop in various places to avoid going to the potty. Once, they even ground it into the carpet with their electric car. Too much info?

To All,

We've had a slight setback. My son's sick, and so he's been cranky and hasn't gone to the potty too consistently. By the way, we reward him with candy when he goes. Do you think that this is bad?

Brad,

Candy worked for us...

And by the way, that was 11th grade, not 1st.

Ah, the memories. Soon he'll be standing up and aiming--at any old thing but hopefully the potty.

Visit my Friday photo to see how nicely they turn out.
