More on Huckabee
If you read this blog very much, you'll know that I came out "Pro-Huckabee" a couple of weeks ago. In that post, I listed the positives I saw with the Huckabee platform and some of my concerns. (You can read the post here). One of my concerns has been admirably addressed today by Joe Carter at The Evangelical Outpost. If Joe isn't already one of your regular blog stops, you should consider visiting. He's one sharp cookie, and you can't beat his regular Monday 33 Things.

I like Mike Huckabee as well. Now we just have to convince Mr. Turk.
I esteem the governor for his godly morals, unavowed stand on abortion, and desire to bring truth and integrity to politics.
I do not agree with political leaders resorting to debt to run a government however. So on that account I also think Ron Paul has much credence.

This the first time I’ve commented on your blog, I try to check it out once a week or so and enjoy your posts (except the ones on baptism - just kidding).
In years past I probably would be right with you on Huckabee, but not any more. The only candidate in either major party worth voting for is Ron Paul. I won’t go through all the issues here (check out http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/), but you will find that on everything you listed as Pro for Huckabee, Ron Paul is even better and the Cons you listed for Huckabee are strengths for Paul. The only area that you might have disagreement on is the Iraq war and without spilling a lot of ink here, I think thoughtful reflection on the idea of War and a Christian view of it will undoubtedly lead you to embrace Ron Paul’s stand too.
Again, I enjoy your blog and will probably see you tonight.

Thanks for your input. I had considered Ron Paul, but I am not convinced that immediate withdrawal is the wisest course in Iraq. I also remain unconvinced that the Iraq war has been the disaster that everyone says that it is. Time will tell.
I will confess that if Ron Paul is the Republican candidate after the primaries that I would be one happy man. I had a hard time choosing between the two. For me, Huckabee and Paul are the only two candidates with whom I resonate. I am simply not convinced that Huckabee is the liberal spender and non-tax-cutter that he's been painted to be, and I am softer on the illegal immigration situation than Ron Paul. You can try and convince me tonight.:)
